Naylor Workshop for Undergraduate
Research in Writing Studies
York College of Pennsylvania
About the Naylor Endowment
The Naylor Endowment in Writing Studies is made possible through a
generous gift of Mr. Irvin S. Naylor. A longtime friend and benefactor
of York College, Mr. Naylor is not only a successful entrepreneur, but
also a great sportsman and a consistent supporter of providing access to
high quality education at all levels. The Naylor Professorship was
established “in recognition of the outstanding scholarship, achievements,
and compassion embodied by Dr. Dominic DelliCarpini.”
Dr. DelliCarpini currently serves as the first Naylor Endowed Professor of Writing Studies, in accordance with
Mr. Naylor’s wishes and to carry out his vision for this endowment.
The purposes of the endowment include:
-
Providing all interested students with a supportive and challenging learning environment for the study and application of writing studies; an appreciation for the fields of rhetorical theory and composition pedagogy; and commitment to the importance of literacy education toward a flourishing democracy.
-
Promoting undergraduate research in writing studies while supporting the teaching mission of the College and the important role of strong communication skills in developing professionalism and civic engagement.
Funds from the endowment will be used in part to support the Naylor Workshop for Undergraduate Research in Writing Studies. They are also used to promote the study of writing and rhetoric, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the role of writing instruction in assuring an informed citizenry.
We are deeply grateful to Mr. Naylor for this extraordinary gift, which will benefit generations of students. Commitments such as Mr. Naylor’s will improve the quality of literacy education—and in doing so, will help to create better, more engaged citizens.
